CAIRO, March 10 (AGCNewsNet) – Italian authorities have recovered the body of a second Egyptian child following a tragic migrant boat disaster in the Mediterranean, Cairo 24 reported Sunday.
The victims, aged 15 and 17, were from Egypt's Faiyum and Assiut governorates. Their bodies were found days apart and taken to Agrigento, Italy, where legal procedures are underway. The Egyptian Embassy in Rome is handling repatriation.
The boat, which departed from Libya’s Sabratha, suffered mechanical failure before sinking. The Italian Coast Guard rescued around 40 migrants, including a critically injured woman.
Egypt launched its fourth national action plan against irregular migration in October 2024, running until 2026.
