Khartoum, Feb 16 (AGCNewsNet) – The Sudanese military has reclaimed a key bridge connecting eastern and southern Khartoum, continuing its recent territorial gains against the Rapid Support Forces (RSF).
As the war approaches its two-year mark, the army has steadily pushed RSF fighters out of several areas in the capital and its surroundings. However, RSF still holds strategic locations, including the presidential palace, the central market, and parts of western and southern Khartoum. The paramilitary group also controls large portions of Darfur and Kordofan.
On Friday, RSF forces reportedly attacked the famine-stricken Zamzam displacement camp near El-Fashir, tightening their grip on Darfur, where they have besieged army strongholds.
The conflict has displaced over 11.4 million people, with three million refugees fleeing to neighboring countries and eight million internally displaced, according to the UN.
Speaking at a humanitarian summit in Addis Ababa, UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres called the situation a "catastrophe on a staggering scale", urging world leaders to halt arms shipments into Sudan.
“The flow of weapons is fueling immense civilian suffering,” Guterres warned, emphasizing the need for immediate humanitarian aid, especially as Ramadan approaches.
Despite multiple peace efforts in Jeddah, Cairo, Addis Ababa, and Geneva, negotiations between the army and RSF remain deadlocked, as both factions still seek total military victory.
